Terranet Demonstrates Vulnerable Road User App at Kista Mobility Day
Today Terranet will demonstrate a vulnerable road user app at Kista Mobility Day, an event organized by Ericsson, in partnership with Stockholm City, Urban ICT Arena, Drive Sweden and Viable Cities. Terranet will demonstrate capabilities specifically in the area of ‘Vehicle-to-Pedestrian’ (“V2P”), in an effort to provide real-time localization and collision warnings between vehicles and vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter riders) via smartphones. The evolution of positioning in smartphones leads to increased accuracy, reliability, and robustness demonstrated by Waysure’s high accuracy satellite-based positioning.
The demo is timely considering the shifting landscape in mobility, as more e-scooters are introduced to roads, pedestrians and drivers are increasingly distracted with their handsets, and vehicle technologies continue to advance through higher levels of autonomy. Pedestrian fatalities have been increasing in major cities like Stockholm, San Francisco and Boston.
Terranet’s vulnerable road user app has already been tested using Carmenta’s Traffic Watch platform on Ericsson’s network: “It’s valuable to have highly precise, stable, and accurate positioning, as we create situation maps that allow us to pinpoint where things happen in real time.
