Terranet and Intel to Showcase Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) Demo at 5GAA Turin Conference

Today in Turin Italy, Terranet and Intel will jointly demonstrate a 4K streaming video application running over 5G networks utilizing Predictive Quality of Service (QoS) and Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC).  The 5GAA In-Vehicle Entertainment (IVE) use case will be prominently featured as part of the C-V2X demos on display at the 5GAA conference, scheduled to take place in the Museo dell’Automobile.

Intel’s MEC technology serves as a key offering that promises cloud computing capabilities and an IT service environment at the edge of 5G mobile networks, both of which are critical to ensuring high quality of service. This is relevant, as both drivers and passengers spend, on average, more than 300 hours per year in vehicles – time that could be better utilized and enjoyed. MEC technology is important, as it offers low latency for unprecedented high-quality interactive gaming and live media streaming to both automated and non-automated vehicles.

Terranet’s HD media streaming client and server were adapted to support predictive Quality of Service (QoS) functions to deliver the highest possible 4K video streaming over 5G networks. Other application use cases include gaming, virtual reality (VR), office work, online education, advertisements, and more.

“We are extremely pleased to collaborate with Intel to showcase high definition 4K video streaming over 5G networks utilizing MEC and Predictive QoS technologies at the 5GAA Turin Conference. We’ve built our HD media and communications platforms to support 5G’s high bandwidth, low latency requirements to deliver the highest entertainment value to consumers – something that will become increasingly important with the progression of autonomous vehicles,” says Pär-Olof Johannesson, Terranet CEO.
